ProGuard Exteriors Ltd is a fully accredited installer of cavity wall insulation and provide bespoke packages for homeowners, developers and businesses across South East England. Cavity wall insulation is an insulation method used to reduce the amount of heat lost through the walls of a property by filling the air space between walls with sprayable insulation. This minimises the transfer of heat loss to help improve thermal performance, decrease energy consumption and lower heating bills.

There are a range of cavity wall insulation systems such as mineral wool, rockwool, polystyrene beads and polyurethane foam. The type of cavity insulation depends on your home, wall type and space available. One of our qualified surveyors will arrange a survey to determine the cost, explain the benefits and best type of insulation.

Is Cavity Wall Insulation A Good Investment?

Cavity Wall Insulation South East England - ProGuard Exteriors Ltd

Up to 35% of heat is lost through the walls on an uninsulated property which causes freezing walls and cold rooms. We have seen our customers try to fix this problem by turning their heating up to max which costs a huge amount of money. When you heat a house with solid walls and no cavity the warm air hits the cold walls which creates condensation. This moisture builds up due to the constant cooling and heating creating the perfect breeding ground for mould and damp. Our cavity wall wall insulation systems solve this problem!

Cavity Wall Insulation Benefits

Saves You Money On Heating Bills

Our cavity wall insulation systems can help you save up to £250 per year on heating bills which will cover the installation cost after 5-10 years.

100% Hassle Free Installation

The installation process takes 1-2 days to finish and all work undertaken is completed outside of your property which means no mess or disruption.

Reduces Your Carbon Footprint

With less heat escaping through uninsulated walls it means you do not need to use as much energy to keep your home at a constant temperature.

Keeps Your Home Warmer

Cavity wall insulation will slow down the movement of heat through your walls, which means your home will maintain a good temperature all year round.

Our Cavity Wall Insulation Systems

Our cavity wall insulation installation contractors are fully insured, accredited and have over 20 years of experience. We specialise in creating bespoke residential and commercial cavity insulation packages for homeowners, developers and businesses across South East England. Our main aim is to offer an all-in-one solution that caters to the diverse needs of our clients.

Cavity Wall Insulation Installation Process:

  1. Full assessment and survey to be carried out by one of our registered installers so we can determine whether or not your property is suitable for cavity wall insulation.
  2. We drill small holes into your outside walls.
  3. The recommended insulation material is then sprayed into the cavity.
  4. The holes are then filled in to match your existing paintwork/exterior finish.
Filling cavity walls with insulation is NOT a DIY job. You must hire a registered and accredited installer. Incorrectly filling cavity walls can cause great damage to your property so it is not something you should “go cheap” with. Once we have determined if you property is suitable, the installation typically takes a 2-5 hours to complete for an average 2-4 bedroom house with accessible walls.

Types Of Cavity Wall Insulation

  • Blown Mineral Fibre – this is a type of insulation where strands of fibreglass or mineral wool are blown into the cavity using compressed air. This material is covered by British Board of Agrement (BBA) certificates.
  • Polystyrene Beads Or Granules – this is a type of insulation that can be supplied loose or held in a lightweight resin to hold the beads together. Both materials are blown into the cavity using compressed air and covered by British Board of Agrement (BBA) certificates.
  • Polyurethane Foam – this is a type of insulation is created from inside the wall cavity itself by simultaneously injecting and mixing two chemical components to form the foam which then expands to fill the cavity. This insulation is covered by British Standards BS:5618 for the material and BS5617 for the application.

Can You Get Cavity Wall Insulation?

If your property was build after the 1920’s then it’s likely to have a cavity wall. In most cases you can identify this by the pattern of your exterior wall bricks.

If the bricks follow an alternative patterns of long and short bricks, then you are likely to have a solid wall which means there is no cavity and therefore not suitable for this type of insulation. In this case a method such as external wall insulation or internal wall insulation would be better suited.

However, if your property follows an even brick pattern then it probably has a cavity which is what’s needed for this type of insulation. A thermal imaging camera is the best way to identify where heat is lost through the walls and therefore where is and is not insulated.

Cavity Wall Insulation Costs & FAQ's

The price of having cavity wall insulation installed will vary depending on the type of property and type of insulation that is used. On average a detached house will cost between £3500 to £5500. A semi detached house will cost between £2000 to £4000. A mid-terrace house will cost between £1500 to £2500. A bungalow will cost between £2000 to £4000. Please note that these are ESTIMATES ONLY!

One of our accredited and registered specialists will undertake a full assessment to identify whether or not your property is suitable for cavity wall insulation.

This type of insulation is installed from outside of your property. The drilling process does mean vibrations will be felt from inside. Our installers will need to access all of your exterior walls so the only time they would need access is to get inside outer buildings such as garages, lean-to sheds and conservatories. If you live in a semi-detached or terraced house our team will be able to advise you.

When we undergo our initial assessment our surveyor must carry out checks before (and after) the installation so access to your property will be required.

If your neighbours property is not insulated our installers will insert what’s called a cavity barrier at the party wall line. However, if your neighbours house were to be insulated at the same time then this barrier would no longer be required. Our team will be able to advise you on this in the initial assessment and survey.

No. Once the cavity wall insulation is installed there will not be any need for ongoing maintenance or servicing. The insulation should last for the lifetime of the property.
